Included are renditions of traditional myths, legends, and detailed accounts of life on the Northwest coast. Author Nora Dauenhauer does impeccable research into the history of Southeast Alaska, having been raised in a traditional Tlingit-speaking family. She has had training in anthropology, folklore and linguistics, and has published poetry and fiction in English as well as her translations from the Tlingit. Her husband and co-author, Richard Dauenahauer has degrees in Slavic languages, German, and comparative literature. He is a widely published poet and translator, and is a former poet laureate of Alaska. |
