Description |
Ketchikan Iron Works as seen from the water looking toward Nob Hill, 1914 From 1913-1937, Ketchikan Iron Works provided black-smithing and machinist services to the commercial fishing fleet, canneries, and other businesses. In 1914, they began to offer oxy-acetylene welding, a recent innovation at that time and vast improvement over the older method of forge welding. In addition to their repair services, they also sold Atlas brand gas engines. The Ketchikan Iron Works was later located just north of downtown, on the site now occupied by the Berth 3 covered passenger pavilion. |
