Legionnaires with the Gorst Air Transport Loening Aircraft, 1929 GORST AIR TRANSPORT PLANE AT THOMAS BASIN NEXT TO STEDMAN STREET Photo caption from similar photograph published in The Ketchikan Daily News, September 18, 1959 reads: "About 1930, this Gorst Air Transport plane operated briefly between Seattle and Ketchikan, using the tideflat as a landing strip. In this photo, Karl Berg, then about 80, is preparing to travel to the "states" aboard the plane. He was one of the first passengers, and displays an Alaska flag which Ketchikan Legionnaires sent with hi. In the photo are, left to right, Jack Talbot, A. E. Karnes, Berg, Sam Bartholomew, Ralph A. Bartholomew, and Phillip Eliot. Photo courtesy Mrs. Peter Bringsli." Don Dawson's Notes: 1929 (Probably April 17th) in Ketchikan.
