Description |
The new Tongass Trading Co. building, 1913 Attorney Charles Cosgrove has the corner office on the second floor; apartments are above. Note the swastika symbol over the door of H.D. Kirmse's jewelry shop, a few doors down the block in the Revilla Hotel building. It might have been intended to indicate that Native curios were sold in the store. (Alaska Natives, along with various cultures around the globe, used the swastika symbol centuries before it was adopted by the Nazi party in Germany.) |
