Ketchikan Alaska Chronicle, 9/12/1951 "Sunderland Now Acting Police Chief Captain Carl Sunderland of the, Ketchikan police force became acting chief today when the resignation of Chief Walter became effective. City Manager W. H. Barton announced that Sunderland will be acting chief until further notice. It is expected that Barton will interview applicants for the chief's position in the near future. Carter has been chief for several months following the resignation of former Chief R. D. Lang ,, due to ill health. Carter has been on the police force for more than three years. He of submitted his resignation last month, announcing he planned to enter private practice. Sunderland has been on the police force for several years." Ketchikan Daily News, 10/23/1951 "TO POLICE STEDMAN STREET Police Chief C. E. Hansen announced today that Don Elton, resident of Ketchikan for several years and former member of the police force at Richland, California, has been added to the staff here. Hanson said that Elton will be assigned to a beat on Stedman Street during the evening hours and has been instructed to pay particular attention to enforcing the curfew law for juveniles. All youngsters, he said, are supposed to be of the street by 10 p.m., unless accompanied by their parents or en route directly home from the theater or other activity and repeated offenders will be picked up and held at the city jail. Elton replaces officer Carl Sunderland who has terminated his services with the force." |
