Had been Dynamite Joes's, a roadhouse. Originally a Territorial School, Charcoal Point had its own school district and school board. The district paid for its students to go to high school in town. In the spring of 1933, residents voted to extend the Ketchikan city limits out to Smiley's Cannery (near Wolf Point). As students could then go to White Cliff and downtown to Main School, the Charcoal Point Schoolhouse was closed down. Several years later, storm damage to one of the pilings caused part of the building to collapse and it was subsequently torn down. |
