The incorporators are J. R. Heckman. Joseph Ulmer, D. Smith Harris, Alex Osherg, A. J. Inman, all of Ketchikan. The capital stock is given at $100, 000 divided into shares of a par value of $10 each. The principal place of operations is given as Baily Bay, which is at Bell Island not far from Ketchikan. Famous hot springs are situated at Bell Island. The property at the hot springs has been advertised for sale, and it is supposed that the corporation has purchased this property. In the articles of incorporation it is stated that the first business to be engaged in will be that of an electrical power company." The Cordova Daily Times, October 22, 1919 "HEALTH RESORT BE MADE NEAR KETCHIKAN Igloo No. 16, Pioneers of Alaska, has received the articles of incorporation for the establishment of a sanitarium at Bailey bay, according to announcements made by members of the lodge at Ketchikan. It is the intention of the igloo to build at Bailey bay a modern and up to-date health resort, with good buildings and accommodations for a large number of people. The sanitarium will not only be for members of the order, but for Alaskans or anyone who desires treatment. The plan has been approved by the Grand Igloo of Pioneers and by the government. The mineral hot springs at Bailey are of the highest medicinal value, and of great benefit to those suffering from rheumatism, lumbago or any ailment which a hot springs will cure. It is planned later to issue an attractive pamphlet setting forth the advantages of the resort and an extensive advertising campaign will be entered into by those in charge of the work. The Bailey hot springs have been long known locally as being among the best in Alaska, the water having a constant and large flow, with an exceedingly high temperature, and containing valuable medicinal values. Bailey bay is located on Cleveland peninsula, about seventy-five miles north of Ketchikan, and immediately across Beam canal from the upper end of Bell island." The Cordova Daily Times, August 4, 1920 "Promoters of the Bailey Bay Hot Springs Sanatorium, which is to be built by Ketchikan men, are enthusiastic over the natural advantages of the place. There are a series of nine springs bubbling forth the average temperature of which is near the boiling point, or 293 degrees. An elaborate system of baths is planned by the syndicate." |
