(Bud) Bodding, and wife, of Ketchikan are shown above taking delivery of their new Mercury Monterey Coupe which they recently picked up at the Lincoln Mercury plant in Detroit Michigan . Mr. and Mrs. Bodding are making a 'trip of a lifetime,' driving around the United States with their new car, purchased through Bucey Motor Company. While in Detroit the Boddings inspected the Ford plants and various other points of interest, as guests of the Ford Motor Company." Ketchikan Daily News article, 6/19/1954 "Story on '55 Car Models Disturbs GM NEW YORK (A.P.) - General Motors has cancelled all its advertising in a financial newspaper, the Wall Street Journal following a story in the paper that forecast 1955 models of automobiles. Included in the story, which covered most of the new automobiles for 1955, was a sketch of what the Journal said would be the 1955 Chevrolet, a GM product. General Motors has not commented but a spokesman for the New York paper said the advertising, which amounts to about $250,000 a year, was cancelled the day the story was printed. The story predicted most principal makers would use wraparound windshields next year and that two GM cars-Chevrolets and Pontiacs, would have V-8 engines for the first time. Details on new models are among the closest guarded information in the highly competitive. Story on '55 Car Models Disturbs GM." |
