School teacher at desk in front of chalk board inside Gravina Island School House, circa 1902. A government school opened on Gravina Island in the fall of 1899 (2). On July 5, 1904, a fire destroyed the sawmill, the store and more than half of the dwellings in the town of Gravina, which never rebuilt. |
