Description |
Flying Workhorse The helicopter has become popular for use as flying workhorse. Here a Temsco helicopter sets a power pole in place for Southeastern Electric's line crew, working on Ketchikan Public Utilities new power line along South Tongass highway. In other operations, the helicopter will string line from pole to pole in areas inaccessible to trucks and almost inaccessible to foot traffic. The helicopter is used to ferry men and supplies into spots where there are no roads, landing strips or lakes and to rescue stranded persons. The Coast Guard has a jet-powered helicopter stationed here for rescue work. Note: see Ketchikan Daily News, June 5, 1967 page 11 |
