Images collected by the Strench family while they lived in Ketchikan. Mary Minthorn Strench taught at the high school for one year in 1917 prior to her marriage to William G. Strench. William was the Director of Immigration from 1915 to 1931. Mary's father was Dr. Henry John Minthorn, a Quaker medical Missionary to the Tsimshian in Metlakatla. He first went to Metlakatla in 1897 and was back and forth from Metlakatla to Oregon until his death in 1922. Minthorn's first wife, Laura (died 1916), and his second wife, Matilda (married 1917 or 1918) worked with Minthorn in Metlakatla |
