Strong, with other local and Seattle investors, formed the Northland Packing Company and built a cannery on their dock, next to Ketchikan Cold Storage. In 1918, Northland merged with Sunny Point Packing Company and operated here under the Sunny Point name. In 1927, Sunny Point built a new cannery at Charcoal Point and the downtown cannery was razed to make room for expansion of the cold storage plant. H.C. Strong and Northland packing Co. were closely associ-ated with San Juan Fish Co., a major Seattle fish buyer. Thus the San Juan signs on the Northland cannery. |
