Note: totem pole on the left is in front of the Kubley's store. There are at least two mentions of the store in relation to a totem pole outside the business: Notation from City Council minutes: July 2 1913 W. H Gilman and Geo Irving appeared to protest the location of a totem pole in front of Kubley's store on Front Street. Daily Progressive Miner, March 22, 1916 Hoisting totem pole in front of Kubley's store. Note: images 2012.2.11.1 & 75.6.10.272 are taken on the same day, from the same rooftop, by different photographers. Both images were likely taken on the Fourth of July in 1913 based on the presence of the Tongass Trading concrete building (1913). The building interior still appears to be under construction.
