Description |
B/W photograph of the Guiding Light Children's Home's basketball team. Eight boys varying in age are posed. The boys in the front row each have their hands on a basketball. Five of the eight boys are wearing shirts with the initials, "GLCH." None of the boys are identified. A handwritten note in faded black ink on the back side reads, "Basketball team the Guiding Light Children's Home season of 49-50," the number 2, and "Return." |
Provenance |
Alfred and Martha Everson came to Ketchikan to do missionary work. They started the Guiding Light Children's Home at Mountain Point in 1946. Their intent with the home was to provide a structured Christian upbringing to children who came from difficult family situations. At its peak, the home is believed to have housed 26 children, likely all boys. Operations likely ceased when the Eversons sold the home to Jimmie and Betty Ann Eastham in 1956. |
