01/15/2020: Tommy Joseph identified this as a war pick and the object name has been updated from "tool, stone" to reflect this new information. See notes field for further details. HAC Stone tool: "Clip-blade" shape Polished gray stone hand tool with complex bevels. Polished on one side, the other shows signs of wear and is quite rough. Note on accession sheet dated 08-27-1979 "Found at Rotary Beach buried Excavated at rotary beach during summer of '79 while "Making Sand Castles"-no data recorded." "Identification by Dr. MacDonald (anthropologist) Ethnographic- weapon beveled point on one end, double edged cutting point on opposite end. Made out of sedimentary rock. Length: 24.5 cm., Width: 2.5 cm., Height: 3.7 Condition: good, no broken fragments or chips." Period - pre-contact |
