Tlingit War Helmet by Matt Helgesen, 2010 Helmet: Alder wood war helmet carved and painted in the Tlingit style to represent the Killer Whale crest. A stylized killer whale head, including operculum shell "teeth," is surmounted by dorsal fin, to which horsehair streamers are attached. Materials: Alder wood, operculum shells, horsehair, deer hide, acrylic paint Measurements: 13 1/4"H x 10" W x 14 5/8" L Signed: in ink on the bottom face of the rim, "Matthew Helgesen, 5-14-10." A.
