Provenance |
BASKET WAS COLLECTED BY ARTHUR BRYANT'S MOTHER AFTER 1900 THS Newsletter November 1970 ARTHUR BRYANT COLECTION Arthur Bryant, long time Ketchikan resident, donated his collection of Al.skana to the Museum. In the collection are examples of. Indian and Eskimo basketry and many books including out-of-print ones by Margaret Bell Wiks. Also included in the collection are two paintings. One is 'by Nina Crumrine, an Alaskan artist who produced pastels and oils of Northern scenes and people. The other painting is by Katherine Delaney Abrams, and depicts in watercolor an abandoned Indian communal house. It is believed that she was the wife of John L. Abrams, who was customs collector at Sulzer from 1909-191 and at, Ketchikan from 1915-1920. Confirmation of this relationship would be appreciated by the Curator. Mr. Bryant, also donated a valuable journal belonging to his father, Willis Bryant. Covered in the diary were his trips to the Arctic in 1897 and'1898 on the LOUISE J. KENNEY, when it brought reindeer and Laplanders to Alaska. The glass plate negatives from these trips are part of the donations. |
