Description |
Spruce root basket with straight sides and five bands of darkly dyed spruce root. Each band is approximately 20cm and the first starts 30cm from the bottom. Each band of weaving has 10 rows of dyed material comprising the design. On the upper part of the basket the weaver has chosen to use natural colored spruce roots in 14 rows of false embroidery; with a row of regular twining in between each row of false embroidery. Note: during a research visit in 2024, Delores Churchill noted this is a cooking basket (note it is lighter inside than outisde) and the ending uses 6 strands. 03/06/2024 ERB Donation notes indicate the dye used on the basket is made from a root (dark) and a bug from water was used to make the red dye. |
