"Fortess, Lo Pinto, and Mousseau They unofficially called themselves the New York group", with Karl Fortess and Roland Mousseau from Woodstock and Ferdinand Lo Pinto from New York City. They arrived with most of the others in Ketchikan, June 6. During their stay there they traveled to the surrounding islands on Forestry Service boats. The group left Ketchikan in mid-July for Wrangell, spending about ten days there. They went to Valdez and Seward by ship, and took the train north to Anchorage to spend one month there. On September 4, the group went by train to Mt. McKinley Park, and stayed in a Forest Service cabin at Igloo Creek. During their stay they were disturbed by bears, which the road crews in the Park found quite amusing. The story eventually made the Fairbanks newspaper. The group took the train to Fairbanks on the 12th of September for a twelve day stay. From Fairbanks they took the train south, stopping at McKin-ley Park on the 25th. On October 2, the group arrived back in Seward, leaving that night by ship for an unknown destination. Lo Pinto arrived in Ketchikan on November 8, with Fortess and Moussean arriving the next day. The group left Alaska with most of the other artists on November 13." (WPA Alaska Art Project 1937, Anchorage Museum of History and Art, 1987 page 16).
