Description |
Spruce root basket with flared sides Description from object card: "Twined spruce root cylindrical basket, flared sides. "close-together-work" for entire basket. One row of 3 strand twining at bottom edge. Border is in 3 strand twining w/warps twined down to inside. False embroidery in 3 bands, possibly maidenhair fern with a small portion of red grass. Top and bottom bands are the "feather wings of the arrow" pattern, each row in opposite directions. The center band is the "leaves of the fireweed" pattern. The centers of the bands are black dyed spruce root and visible on the inside. Evidence of red dyed root outlining the whole design band (now faded) "strawberry weave" in black and red for 2 rows near the top edge. Border was also done with some red root but is now faded.
