Description |
Carved canoe paddle. Blade is deeply relief carved in traditional NWC designs. Paddle made from one piece of yellow cedar (?). Paddle has a crutch-like handle grip that consists of a cylindrical bar that is perpendicular to the handle. Centered under the grip is a v-shaped space. The top of the handle is slightly narrower than the grip, then widens, and begins to taper down as it approaches the paddle blade. The handle is flattened at the top but becomes cylindrically shaped toward the blade. The top of the blade is wider than the end of the handle, forming a lip on both sides. The blade angles down and out for 55 cm and then angles in to form a point. The grip and handle are undecorated. The blade is decorated with low relief NWC design elements that conform to the shape of the paddle |
