Sierra Club sign from the former Gateway Club Sign reads: Sierra Club Members Not Welcome No Trespassing Phone book listings: 1964-1967 Gateway Club & Liquor Store (8 Mile) 1968-1995 Gateway Bar & Liguor Store (listed at 7.5 or 7 mile) Per respective obituaries: Rudy Buckovich 12/20/1927 - 4/27/1994 Marjorie Ann (Mallum) Bukovich 2/13/1927 - 12/1/2010 Mr. Bukovich was a logger and moved his family to Ketchikan in 1964 (he began working as a logger at George Inlet circa 1960). He was the owner of the Gateway Club and his wife helped manage it. In 1972 they also started the "RB Construction and developed a gravel and excavating business." When Rudy passed, he was listed in his obit as the "previous owner of the Gateway Club bar." Sign description: 16" h x 26" w Plywood with sign painted on one side Black lettering with grey shadows to the side of each letter & red lettering with yellow shadowing also on the left. White background and black border Nail holes in the corners and two on the lower edges Black strip of plastic (electrical tape?) under the last line, held on with nails (rusted) Wood and surface paint is aged and cracking |
