Description |
Model Airplane: Grumman Goose by Terry Richardson. Model reproduction of the first Ellis Air Lines Grumman Goose flying boat brought to Ketchikan. Painted in the original green and orange paint scheme. This model includes the Ellis modifications such as the water rudder, removal of the 300 pound wheels, and the bumper in front that was made with old fire hose to keep the water spray out of the propellers during take off and landing. Other features include the cleats, a pitot tube (measures wind speed) and hand holds near the walk path. The logo and name was painted on the inside of the pontoons as one of Bob Ellis' marketing schemes, thus when a picture was taken from the window, the company information was always included. Note the Ellis text on the side is done in Brittin Blue, almost a black, which was used until 1958 when the last of that color was used. After that time the test was done in green. Also the brown paint on the top was a mixture of brown paiont and cork and acted as a nonskid. |
